Thermacool™ by Thermage® - What to Expect
| General Information | What to Expect | Before/After Pictures |
There is an immediate visible tightening, sometimes subtle, sometimes more dramatic, at the end of the treatment. However, the beauty of Thermage is in the tightening that is gradually achieved by your body's own healing response, particularly between the second and sixth months. Most people experience good results with one treatment. However, if at any time in the future additional tightening is desired, the treatment can be repeated safely.
We ask that you arrive in the office, wearing a two piece outfit, 45 minutes before your treatment for photographs, consent and pre-medication with Darvocet or a similar opiate. A treatment grid is applied over the area and a grounding pad is placed on your trunk. Once relaxed, a hand piece and gel are used to apply consecutive heat passes, inch by inch, tailoring the treatment specifically to your skin. The procedure generally lasts one to two hours, depending on the number of areas being addressed. Mild redness generally dissipates by the time you leave the office. The treatment does not affect the skin surface, therefore there are no restrictions on makeup or sun exposure. Although most people experience the heat sensation only while it is being applied, the area may be sore to touch for a few hours to a few days in a minority of patients. Pain medication later is usually not necessary. For your safety, we request that someone drive you home that day.
Are there risks?
Temporary minor redness and swelling, nodules under the skin, and blisters are reported in fewer than 1% of patients. Rare skin depressions have been described (<0.2%).
