CO2 Laser Resurfacing - What to Expect
| General Information | What to Expect | Before/After Pictures |
The laser removes the top layer of the skin leaving a bare surface like an abrasion, which heals within one week. Once the new skin has healed, the resurfaced area is pink. This pinkish tone fades away slowly over the next six to twelve weeks. Makeup may be worn after two weeks. Frequent follow-up visits are required during healing. Return to work is advisable two weeks after surgery. |
Are touch ups possible?
We treat your skin conservatively and with extreme care. This policy ensures that risks of excessive skin tightness, tearing and scarring are minimized. Because of this philosophy, most patients experience significant improvement and no complications, but some patients have residual wrinkles or creases that can be further improved. Touch up surgery is possible six months to a year following the initial treatment.
Are there risks?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers have been used for over twenty years without known long-term adverse effects on the body. The Ultrapulse 5000 with computerized pattern generator is simply a technologically advanced carbon dioxide laser able to deliver a predictable amount of energy to the skin, which is then absorbed by the water in the skin cells being targeted. Cells that absorb the energy are vaporized, not just damaged. The surrounding skin is unharmed. Although scarring and excessive tightening are conceivable, meticulous conservative technique avoids most complications.
