FRAXEL®

Turn back the clock on aging with the new Fraxel SR1500!   In keeping with offering our patients the latest technology in skin rejuvenation, we now offer the Fraxel SR1500, the most advanced laser treatment for skin.  Now you can rediscover the fresh, healthy skin of your youth.

Understanding how Fraxel Laser Skin Treatment Works

The Fraxel Laser produces thousands of tiny treatment spots known as microthermal zones.  These zones remodel your skin a fraction at a time.  During the process, new skin is produced, collagen and elastin are regenerated.  About 20 to 30% of the skin is resurfaced with each session.

What conditions and areas can be treated with Fraxel technology?

Wrinkles, uneven texture, large pores, sun spots, brown spots, melasma, and uneven pigmentation can be treated successfully with the Fraxel SR1500 Laser. Optimal improvement is usually visible two to three months after completion of the treatment series.

Treatment areas include:

  • Face - Surface wrinkles, brown spots, acne scars, pigmentation and roughness
  • Neck - Wrinkles and pigmentation
  • Chest - Sun damage, wrinkles, freckles, brown spots
  • Hands - Age spots, weathered appearance
  • Arms - Age spots, rough skin, actinic keratosis

How many treatments will I need?

The goal of Fraxel Laser Resurfacing is to remodel 100% of your skin.
Clinical studies suggest that optimal results can be achieved with three to five sessions, spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart. Each treatment session targets approximately 20% of the skin's surface.  Each session produces improvement and the results add up over each treatment.

Preparing for Treatment

Fraxel Laser treatments are performed by the physician in our Center.  The treatment area will be thoroughly washed prior to the procedure, and then a layer of topical anesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated. Once the anesthetic cream has taken effect, a clear gel is applied to the treatment area and your Fraxel Treatment begins.  The SR1500 uses a newly designed roller tip and with the addition of new, sophisticated software, no blue dye is needed.

What kind of results can I expect?

You can expect two levels of results, immediate and progressive.  Immediately after initial healing is complete, your skin will feel softer, look brighter, and tone will start to become even.  Progressive results occur over the next three to six months as the deeper layers of skin continue to heal.

What are the side effects after treatment?

Side effects are minimal and usually limited to a sunburn-like redness and facial swelling which usually subsides in 2-3 days.  New epidermal skin develops within 24 hours. The process of skin repair involves:

Bronzing:

Your skin will have a bronze appearance that lasts anywhere from three to 14 days, depending on the treatment level.

Flaking:

Your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate as the epidermal skin replaces dead tissue. Flaking is similar to that of minor sunburn. Use of a moisturizer will help conceal the appearance of flaking.

Over the following weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues that have been affected by the Fraxel treatment, producing longer beneficial changes associated with a healthy, youthful appearance.

When can I go back to work?

Typically patients find they can go back to work soon after treatment or the next day. Some patients prefer a little social downtime while the skin is rebuilding.

What can I do to protect my new skin?

Be sure to wear SPF 30-plus sunscreen and apply twice a day during the healing phase and for several months after treatment. For added protection from sunlight, use wide/brimmed hats.
